Sensei Padron - Godan

Sensei Benaldo "Leo" Padron

Started his Martial Arts training in 1974 in the discipline of Kyokushinkaikan Karate, while living in New York under full-contact karate champion; the late Shuseki-Shihan William Oliver and Sempai Chucho "Santo" Fraganzia. Sensei Padron attained Shodan Ranking in 1982 and received his Nidan rank in ’84 and began experimenting with other styles of martial. Sensei Padron had spent a short time in kickboxing and had done very well, becoming the South Florida Amateur Kickboxing Champion in 1988. 

In 1990 Sensei Padron relocated to Ohio and began training with a local Shotokan Karate club. Sensei Padron would visit with family in New York and would train with the old dojo's with Oliver, Nakamura, and World Oyama to maintain his knowledge and skills.

  In 1994 Sensei Padron practiced Judo with a Dr. Beard, who was an Olympic Bronze medalist in the 60's. Sensei Padron achieved the rank of yonkyu. In 1995, Sensei Padron opened his first Karate Club in a local Community Center and later that year he opened a second club. In 2001, Sensei Padron organized his first tournament with knock-down rules and at the end of that year, he opened his own commercial dojo. It was the first commecial dojo in Columbus that offered Kyokushin karate.

While living in New York & Ohio, Sensei Leo has had the opportunity to train with some of the best Masters of Karate in the United States and around the world. And now, he wishes to share his experience with you.

A personal note; Sensei has over 30 years of martial arts experience and is constantly working on

 

ways to introduce knock-down karate to the Ohio public. Always striving to improve our

 

organization so that we may serve the community and present ourselves in a most formatted manner

 

and that we represent the spirit of Budo which encompasses elements of proper behavior, courtesy,

 

and good will towards man.

Sempai M. "Sarge" Badruddeen - Nidan

Sempai Mujahed "Sarge" Badruddeen Co-founder of OKJ;

A retired US Army Sergent, started on his first journey in martial arts while stationed in Korea, studying Tae Kwon Do.

Sempai Badruddeen's martial arts experience also includes Shotokan Karate where he has achieved the level of  sankyu brown belt and the wrestling coach of his Army Unit.

In 1998, Sempai Badruddeen joined our Dojo, where we were then, teaching in a Southside Recreation Center.

 

Even though he has had some setbacks due to his health, He still finds that spirit that keeps him fired up and pushing on.

Sarge's dedication to Karate and, our Dojo has not been matched by any other.

 

He has participated in many tournaments and has won many awards and his age of over 50 has never been a factor in his training or his competitive spirit. Sarge is notorious for challenging himself in the young men’s divisions at local tournaments!  

 

Sempai Sarge went on to receive his Shodan Black Belt in Kyokushin Karate in 2006 and has been designated as Senior Sempai (O-Sempai), taking on the responsibility of Head Coach of the Oyama Kenka Karate Juku.

 

Always ready to learn new techniques and strategies and willing to test himself and his new found techniques on some unexpecting assailant. Being a 20 year Veteran of our nations' military, and surviving 2 wars, is a great accomplishment within itself.

 

The great spirit that he has shines through him in the spirit of Kyokushin

Sempai Gene Peters - Nidan

Sempai Gene Peters Co-founder of OKJ

Sempai Gene has been a student of the martial arts since 1999. He made the transition from shotokan karate, in which he holds a rank of brown belt, to the study of Kyokushin Karate under Sensei Padron.

Sempai Gene has been an asset to our organization for many years. Acting as a Coach since obtaining his Green belt in 2002. As a Senior Ranking Student he has instructed classes alongside Sensei, by himself, as well as, with assistance from other senior club members. Instructing karate in The Columbus Parks and Recreation Community Centers as well as in our dojo.

If you are at an area tournament, You will find Sempai Gene either coaching his three sons, coaching one of our students or, competing himself.

Tournament credits include receiving

1st place in Kata multiple times. While, taking no lower than 2nd place in Kumite (Fighting).

Most notably being designated as an "All American" by the A.K.J.U. in 2002. Sempai Gene has written extensive articles about Karate, covering subjects such as Karate theory and philosophy.

In 2006, He earned the rank of Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in Kyokushin Karate, then earned his Nidan in 2009.

Sempai Gene is employed as a Management executive for a multinational Plumbing Corporation. He resides in Columbus, Ohio with his wife, and three sons. When not working, spending time with his family, or practicing Karate or, being a Webmaster. He also on occasion, enjoys hitting golf balls into dense undergrowth, water hazards, and adjacent fairways.

Sempai Armondo Washington - Nidan; Has been training with Sensei

Padron since 1995 and he is the last of the original students since

Sensei Padron has been teaching in Ohio. inn Ohio. Sempai Armondo has

received more training then any other student of WKKO/Oyama

Juku-USA. His confidence in his skills show through when ever he hits

the dojo floor, never backing down to any opponent no matter what

their size or skill level. Sempai Armondo's fighting skill has won

him many awards in the kumite divisions of many open tournaments

and his martial skills has been tested on the untamed streets. When

teaching a class, Sempai Armondo reminds one of a Drill Sergeant in

the military. Sempai Armondo also holds a shodan rank in Shotokan

Karate and he also wrestles for his High School.

Sempai Lucas Hitch - Nidan: Has been concidered the most disciplined

student of all WKKO/Oyama Juku-USA. Sempai Lucas has been with

the dojo since 2001. Sempai Lucas has received high honors in sports

and also in academics. Receiving awards in science fairs as well as

many awards in karate tournaments in kata and in kumite. Sempai

Lucas also has a Shodan rank in the Shotokan Karate style. Sempai

Lucas and his family live in the Grand Turks Islands and has assisted

in teaching Karate in one of the local Island dojos. He and his family

travel back and forth to the US and Grand Turks and when in the US,

Sempai Lucas assumes his duties as Jr Sempai here at Oyama Kenka
